Info for Bands
Provided equipment
Here's what will be on stage for Spectrum JamFest. If you need something more, please let me know (kevin.droe@uni.edu). Based on the information I get back from everyone, the list below may change. Each band will use their own guitars and basses.
"Help! I need some equipment!" We might have some extra equipment at UNI to loan out. Tell me what you need.
Sound Check/T-Shirt pick-up: There will be a soundcheck from noon-1pm the day of JamFest. This will be an opportunity for your bands to walk on stage, plug in, check the sound, start their song, stop after about 15 seconds and walk off. Once I get everyone's info, I'll make a soundcheck schedule.
A word about stands...It's preferable not to use stands at concerts like these. I know, I know, we were raised on stands. In my experience, if stands are on the stage, the students will look at the music most of the time, and miss out on all the other great things going on. When bands memorize their music, they tend to be more ready and enjoy the experience more (sounds counterintuitive). Bands usually tape the setlist to the stage floor as well as lyrics to new songs. We can do that too!! We'll keep a roll of tape at the front of the stage. I want this experience to be enjoyable for your students so if you have a student who needs a stand or they will not go onstage, or a stand is needed to accommodate a student's needs, we'll have a stand for them.
What to wear? Anything is good. Kids can pick up their t-shirt during soundcheck. If they want that to be the band uniform, cool with us!!!!
Snacks and water will be provided backstage for the rockstars. Don't be alarmed if the brown M&M's have not been removed (Led Zeppelin story).
"What if I registered a band and they won't be able to play?" No problem! This is meant to be a fun music-filled day, not a stress-out day. I'll go with the information you send me next week. Saul Goodman!
Support Musicians: If you are missing someone and need someone to fill in for your band, we will have college musicians there ready to help out and play with your band.
Schedule requests: Please send me any special order requests you need (e.g., as early as possible, after 3:00 PM, etc.). I scheduled solo & ensemble festivals for many years. I understand about sports schedules on a Saturday.
It's a fundraiser! Please promote it to your families. It benefits the kiddos in the Spectrum Project and probably many of your students go to school with them.
"Can you come out to my school to hear or work with the band?" ABSOLUTELY! Just tell me when. kevin.droe@uni.edu
